Course Description - 100 Gross Ton Master

The course is designed to satisfy the examination requirements of 46 CFR 10.205(i) for original issuance, 46 CFR 10.209 (c) (iii) for renewal, and 46 CFR 10.209 (f) for reissuance of a license as Master of Steam or Motor Vessels of Not More Than 100 Gross tons (except oceans) and to promote Safety at Sea.
  1. The course includes four learning modules with a total of 25 lessons that correspond to the required USCG examination requirements of 46 CFR 10.910.

  2. Each lesson has assessments to insure that the learning objectives are met before a student can move on to a new lesson. Additional, practice assessments will be provided at the end of each module.

  3. There will be 4 graded assessments at the end of the course, and a graded discussion topic, which will be used to determine GPA and letter grade for the student’s official transcript.

  4. Additionally, students who wish to become a licensed mariner WILL be required to complete four examination modules at one of our approved examination sites. Upon successful completion of these examinations the student will be issued a USCG approved course completion certificate that MUST be turned in with the appropriate application paperwork to the USCG Regional Examination Center within one year of the course completion.


    REQUIRED COURSE TEXTBOOK, RESOURCES AND EQUIPMENT

    Upon course registration and payment, the student will be sent a Master 100 GT Textbook, MII © 2007, a DVD with course videos and reference publications, Training Charts and a log-in/password.

    Additionally, each student will need plotting equipment. We recommend the following plotting equipment.

    Weems and Plath Triangle #101
    We also recommend student’s purchase Maritime Institute’s “Guide to Rules of the Road” study aid. These items can all be purchased from our Ship’s Store or any number of marine supply stores. The Navigation Rules (International - Inland), is included on the CD containing the course reference material and is accessible online. Some students choose to purchase the Navigation Rules book since it is a requirement to carry the book on vessel over 12 meters on inland waters.


    PLEASE NOTE: Completion of the course alone DOES NOT automatically assure you will receive a U.S.C.G. License. There are a number of U.S.C.G. requirements which must be met before an applicant is eligible for the license. Click here to read the USCG LICENSING REQUIREMENTS. If you intend to get the license, you must submit an application and all appropriate paperwork to the USCG for approval. This can be accomplished before or after completion of the online course.
