What is Master of Yachts Ocean
Certificate?

The IYT Yachtmaster Ocean
Certificate is a qualification that
indicates that the holder has
sufficient knowledge of celestial
navigation, based on air navigation
tables, to globally navigate using a
sextant.

To gain the IYT Master of Yachts
Ocean a theory and practical section
must be successfully completed.
The first part comprises a course of forty eight hours of classwork and assessments.

Once the candidate has completed the theory section a practical submission is required to be completed and assessed; to comprise a series of sights, a detailed passage plan and proof of a 600 mile minimum distance rhumb line ocean passage.

An independent IYT Master of Yachts Ocean Examiner will assess the candidate’s submission. Candidates who have demonstrated the required level of understanding and expertise in the course syllabus will be awarded the IYT Master of Yachtsr Ocean Certificate.

The holding of the IYT Master of Yachts Ocean Certificate is restricted to current holders of a valid IYT Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate.

Candidates may apply to any of the IYT Master of Yachts Schools, details of which may be found on our web site www.yachtmaster.com.

(Acceptance onto the course does not automatically guarantee obtaining a IYT Master of Yachts Ocean Certificate. All the prerequisites must be fulfilled and satisfactory standards achieved in
all the modules).
